HOUSEKEEPING:
Approved meeting minutes from May 2017
FIELDS
Rain caused many issues with fields
Parts of Carlson may be closed in Fall 2017 again
Field Q on Union pretty bad shape
EXCEPTION REQUEST
Discussion regarding the placement of players when their school grade and playing year are in conflict when moving from in-town to travel.
Requires parent request followed by board discussion and approval.
REFEREES
Registration is now open for Jr. Referees.
Limiting to 40 referees
Current enrollees have preference over new
A suggestion was made to use Junior Referees in games where there are no refs for U10 Travel. After some discussion, we decided against using Junior Refs because of Coastal’s concerns for liability.
We pay Junior Referees $10/game
We will continue to have scholarships as an incentive for Seniors to officiate games
Also discussed possibility of year-end bonus for those who cover certain number of games
In-town coverage was good.
Referees who did show up did good. There is a flaw somewhere with Travel game ref system. We need to brainstorm more ways to get referees.
EQUIPMENT
Coordinate collecting equipment with C.Gong
REGISTRATION
A. Registration is open. Brad will update website.
TRYOUTS
Run similar to last year
1. 1 v 1, 4 v 4, 8 v 8, 11 v 11
Select to run for U12; Galway for U14
Policy for cast: can try out but must wrap it but cannot play for Coastal
Select will provide 4 coaches & charge $50/hour (compared to $65/hour last year)
Galway is doing Goalie tryouts
C.Gong will pick up numbers & pins
Need someone to pick up tent, box & tables
Level coordinators will handle registration papers & be there for first day of tryout
I. **Post tryout dates in Hingham Journal. Brad will send Tweet & post on Facebook & Snapchat
U10 GIRLS UPDATE
A. One team had 16-0 season. Congrats on a great season.
SENIOR BOYS UPDATE
Conflict with baseball schedule the entire season
SENIOR GIRLS UPDATE
Parent complained that the season is too long & conflicts with vacation. We commit to play a number of games and there will be cases when the season overlaps with vacations.
U12 BOYS UPDATE
4 out of 8 teams made it to Playoffs
4 out of 8 teams also had complaints about Coaches that went to Coastal
U14 GIRLS UPDATE
A. Last team against Marshfield (25 girls). Most games are played with 8-9 players only and there are not enough substitutions. Most of the time, Hingham players are away on vacation. Do we want to expand the roster?
U14 BOYS UPDATE
A. It is a struggle getting the kids to show up to games on Balance Teams because they usually get beaten pretty badly.
MISCELLANEOUS
Promo pullovers for kids may not arrive on time to be sold at Tryouts. Embroidery is causing delay. We will use wegotsoccer.com for web sales.
There was a request to order women sized shirts for U19 Girls. C.Gong explained we normally do. This year was different because we used leftovers to save on cost.
Summer camp registration has reached 270 players. Now looking for Staff (3-4 people).
Steve Fetsko will be retiring from In-Town & Travel Coordinator position after this year
In the fall season, teams were allowed to use Club pass (borrow players). This will not be allowed in the Spring season. If you see it happen, notify Steve Fetsko or Rob Thorne.
Hank Howie’s daughter is graduating this year and Hank will also be retiring. He will, however, continue on Coastal’s Board. Thank you Howie for your 25+ years of service!

Comments from Visitors
Pete Farley Question: How are Travel teams formed? He has seen several players on B Team that belong on A Team.
Response: Teams are formed from Coaches’ Comments at Tryouts. Preference is given to player with second year experience. Some players do not show up to tryouts or those who do show up sometimes do not show any effort.
Suggestion was made to mirror Norwell’s procedure whereby teams are not formulated until end of the fall season. A & B players are comingled for the first part of the year & divvied after few games performance. Coastal is not happy with Norwell’s experiment and parents will also have issue with this method.
Another option is to have U12 In-town balance teams; no travel.
Tryouts is good experience for kids
Risk is that kids won’t come back after getting beaten badly
Jamie Oppediano Question: How are in-town teams chosen? Will there be a change? Response: Separate by school, normally 2 schools to a team. This is for reason of convenience such as carpooling & kids making friends. Some girls requested to stay together.
Comment: Beware that kids this age are aware that they are getting “crushed” Response: Coaches should be aware & responsible to tell their team to stop scoring. We may need to consider talking to coaches about sportsmanship, fair play & breaking up a team that dominates.
Concern: Limit of only 18 per team. What to do with team of 20 players?
Response: 18 players/team limit applies only to MTOC Teams. Reducing players usually depends on commitment by the player. Should we be firm and ask for commitment from the players? Are we competing or are we providing activity for the kids to do? We are town league, not club.
Yaep Bessoud Comment: He is new to town from France and does not yet have children. He has a passion for soccer and would love to get involved.
Response: Do CORI check and assign him to a team as assistant coach.
Michael Dudin Comment: Has a child in Kindergarten and wishes to get involved. Response: Vote Michael as Kickers K Division Director.
